There is nothing like experiencing the holiday season in New York City. One of my favorite holiday traditions is viewing the Christmas tree located at Rockefeller Center and topping the night off with a nice dinner and a Broadway show. Continue reading to discover what restaurant and show selection we chose for our memorable date night in the City.
Rockefeller Center
Our experience began with viewing the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting. I am immensely proud that we were able to capture a clear image in front of the tree without a bustling crowd pushing behind me. Although extremely crowded we managed to stick around long enough to finally secure a spot to take a picture with the tree. Aside from the impressive view of the tree, I am always fascinated when watching the skilled ice skaters at the Rink at Rockefeller Center.
The festive atmosphere is further captured by people dressed as Santa, The Grinch, and various beloved Disney characters. Be sure to stay cozy and warm during this outdoor experience and treat yourself to some tasty treats such as a toasty cup of hot chocolate. If you plan on viewing the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting make sure to do so before its final day on display, January 13th, 2024.
Gallaghers Steakhouse
After viewing the Christmas tree, our next stop consisted of dinner at Gallaghers Steakhouse. This elegant restaurant is located at 228 W 52nd St, just a 12-minute walk from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting. Opening its doors in 1927, Gallaghers Steakhouse is a unique restaurant with an ambiance that showcases the charm of the roaring 20s. Take a look at the image above, where Kevin strikes a pose just outside the storefront showcasing their dry aging room.
Broadway Show
We finished our date night at the Winter Garden Theatre located at 1634 Broadway, just a 2-minute walk from Gallaghers Steakhouse. This year we chose to watch Back to the Future: The Musical. Although initially skeptical due to my unfamiliarity with the movie, it was an incredible performance nonetheless. The performances were comical, lighthearted, and entertaining. If you decide to view Back to the Future: The Musical, stay until the end as they will have a surprise that will knock you off your feet!
Unfortunately, as with most Broadway Shows, images and videos are not allowed throughout the performance and besides, I wouldn’t want to spoil anything for you. So the image above which was displayed during the intermission was the only snapshot we were allowed to take throughout the show. For more information about showtimes and ticket prices be sure to visit the Back to the Future: The Musical Webpage, this is one you won’t want to miss.
I hope you all have a happy holiday season!
